MSc Health Promotion Studies, School of Kinesiology and Health Studies, Queen’s University
I was born in Bangladesh and grew up here in Kingston, Ontario. After completing my undergraduate degree at Queen’s University with a major in Health Studies and a Minor in Psychology, I became interested in exploring mental health promotion for my MSc degree with Dr. Elijah Bisung. My personal and social experiences with international students and families at Queen’s University inspired me to explore mental health awareness among Canadian immigrants, who share a vast array of culturally and historically influenced understandings of health and well-being.
My past research experience includes working with Dr. Stevenson Fergus, Dr. Nomusa Mngoma, and other research partners on a gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS intervention in South Africa-an experience that started my interest in research. When I’m not in the lab, I enjoy re-exploring my beloved public libraries and discovering new places to visit in Kingston’s ever-changing downtown area.
