Project: Media Analysis of Post-War SROs in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside
I am currently working on completing a special projects course with the CEHE under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Masuda, as part of the Right to Remain research project. My work entails an exploratory media analysis of newspaper articles from the transformative post war period in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The goal of the project is to understand the circumstances that preceded the 1970s boom in urban activism and provide insight into public understanding of tenant rights in the Downtown Eastside.
My current academic focus is on environmental and global health equity, particularly with regard to decolonization methods and Indigenous knowledge and land rights movements. I was therefore drawn to the CEHE due to its commitment to community based participatory research and intersectional approaches to environmental health justice.
I look forward to working with the CEHE and learning from the amazing team in my final semester of my undergraduate degree.
